What is HHC?
HHC is a scientific abbreviation for a chemical compound hexahydrocannabinol – a form of the THC that occurs naturally in cannabis and hemp plants. HHC is has the effect of 70-80% the strength of THC. This means it’s more potent than the other hemp derived cannabinoids such as Delta-8 and Delta-10. Small doses of HHC produce a euphoric psychoactive high likeTHC but is often reported by users to have more relaxing and sedative qualities than Delta-8 THC.
HHC can be sourced and extracted both naturally and in a synthetic manner. HHC and THC are almost identically similar – the difference being HHC’s two additional carbon atoms. This small difference in chemical structure means HHC is a more stable compound, lending itself to better resistance to heat and light – making for longer consumable products with longer shelf life than traditional THC products.
What are the benefits of HHC?
While there are few-to-none independent studies about HHC to date, researchers know that HHC is chemically similar to THC and that HHC accounts for up to 80% of the psychoactive properties of THC. This means that users typically experience similar effects and benefits to THC:
- Changes in perception/cognition
- Creative/energetic effects
- Improved sleep
- Reduced inflammation
- Body and cerebral intoxication or “high”
Studies on cannabis in general are limited, but some studies have been done in mice and other rodents that suggest HHC is helpful for sleep and has similar properties to pain-relieving medications.
